4 Different Ways To Secure Your Home Windows

Your home windows can be the only entry point of your home in the eyes of burglars and thieves. That is why it is imperative that you should make sure they are secure and strong enough to resist any unlawful entry to your property.

There are a number of things you can do to ensure the security of your home when it comes to your windows, you will find them explained below;

A home with no impact windows is very vulnerable; as they do not only protect your house against intrusion and break-ins, they also protect it against extreme weather conditions.

  • Keep Your Windows Locked

If you leave your windows open, it would be like you are inviting intruders into your home, and they wouldn't even have to make an effort to get in. So make sure your windows are always locked, especially if you know you will be away from home for a while.

  • Install Security Bars or Grilles

There are different kinds and styles of bars and grilles, you are bound to find one that suits your house. There are retractable grilles, fixed, and removable bars. The latter kind is installed inside the house, and can easily be removed for maintenance, cleaning, and visibility.

P.S. Before installing bars or grilles on your windows, check if your state allows them, as you might have to get a permit beforehand.

  • Make Use of a Good Quality Lock

It would not hurt to go the extra mile and buy a good quality lock for your windows and replace the original locks that come with them. There are 3 main types of locks; flip locks, keyed locks, and sash locks. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages. Flip locks are inexpensive and can be easily installed, but they are not as solid as keyed locks, which are more expensive. However, you would need to keep the key within reach for emergency cases. When it comes sash locks though, they can be used on different kinds of windows, such as double hung, single hung or casement windows.

There is also one or two things you could do to ensure no one would be able to enter your home using your windows. For example, you can plant some thorny plants and bushes, and make it a little harder for intruders to get in. You can also install motion sensor floodlights to deter anyone who gets a little too close.
