Double-Hung Windows

Double-hung windows can look exactly the same as their single-hung counterparts but, where single-hung windows have one operable sash and one fixed sash, double-hung windows have two vertically stacked operable sashes. They have a taller range of sight to the outside than most window types and provide plenty of air and natural light.

Airtight design

When closed shut, the top and lower sashes of modern double-hung windows are interlocking where they meet at the rails to prevent any air infiltration. The space between the corners of the frame and sashes contain airtight butt-joints to eliminate any draft formation.

Ventilation and security control

Once you unlock the sash from its resting position it is then free to be moved up and down the rail. The constant force balance allows you to keep the window at the height that you leave it and control the passage of air. The sashes can also be controlled with ventilator locks that keep the sashes fixed at any height for security, the amount of air coming into the home, and child protection.

Tilting double-hung windows

Modern double-hung windows have a tilting mechanism for both sashes. If you want access to the exterior glass, there are two easy-to-use latches on top of each sash which, when pushed away from each other, suspend the sash to tilt inwardly. This feature makes the exterior glass very easy to clean and can be used to maximize air ventilation in the home.

Insulation performance

The performance of your double-hung windows can be improved with weather stripping, thicker glass panes, and double or triple glazing the glass to make room for solar heat gain shielding gasses (i.e. argon or krypton).

Insect/fly screen

The insect/fly screens of your choice provide high transparency with your operation method of choice to either swing outwardly or pulled down in place using a hook.

More double-hung window features

  • Deep sill.
The sill slopes to the outside for water runoff.
  • 100% vinyl frame.
Vinyl or U-PVC are excellent window frame materials that combat weather damage, tearing, or warping while maintaining excellent light reflectivity.
  • Quality paint.
Odorless and nontoxic colors that are made to go with vinyl frames that share the same corrosion, warping, and weather resistance qualities.
  • Quality finish.
Very reflective and durable wood grain finishes that are made to withstand impacts.
